We are so blessed to have a wonderful piano, violin and flute teacher for our children. Stephanie is a homeschool graduate who has a real gift for teaching. Today was Lydia's first piano lesson. Recently in New England we experienced a very severe ice storm.  Many, many folks were out of electricity for a solid week!  Here at the cottage our electricity was restored in three days time. Really, the only inconvenience we encountered was not being able to "flush".  On day two, after melting buckets of snow, good friends lent us their generator. Flushing and shower capability was restored!

Well, there has been a bit of knitting going on here at the cottage, what with the latest ice storm that knocked out our power and did a fair amount of damage to the property, but all is well and no one was hurt. I can't tell you how many hours of open ended play the simple little play silk has afforded our children. Many. They have been tents, costumes, baby slings, rainbows and a host of other things that many times, I am not even sure what they have been imagined into being.  Tis Spring cleaning time around the cottage. Not always fun, but necessary.  With a woodstove and fireplaces constantly in use during the colder months here in New England a lot of dust gets kicked up. My baby turned seven today. It is so hard to believe that all signs of baby are gone. Last weekend my husband and I had a great night out with our church family. It was "couples night" out at a local restaurant. We are very fortunate to live fairly close to Old Sturbridge Village. This week they had home school day, always well attended and always a treat.  The village hosts a buffet of classes for all ages throughout the day. The fed ex man was a sight for sore eyes last week. He delivered a box with the word flowers on the side! I tore open that box and just breathed in that punch of color from the tulips against such grey and snowy skies.  A gift from my second daughter and son-in-law for my birthday. I enjoy doing the laundry, I really do.  There is something comforting about folding clothing and towels and such.  Smoothing out wrinkles, taking in the smell of freshly scented sheets and linens. Spring and summer are the best months for this domestic duty as you can hang out your wash on the line. Laundry dried in the sunshine and fresh air, nothing can compare!  It naturally bleaches too.
