We've got our priorities all screwed up folks!

What in the world is going on?!

The world lost Whitney Houston recently, Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse in the last year or so. Considering the lifestyles these three led, why in the world is anyone surprised they are dead?  You have drugs, recreational and prescription, and alcohol ingested in extreme amounts over the course of years. How much abuse can the body and mind take before it just gives up. They all led very fast lifestyles so removed from God that their deaths clearly can't be that shocking. Or can it?  I mean really, people are publicly mourning! I am in no way trying to diminish the talent that God bestowed upon them. They all had incredible voices and writing gifts--but, they used it for the glory of themselves and the world, not God.  I am sorry for the children and families they left behind. What kind of lives will they now lead? I posted pics of these *stars* in their better days. If you google their images you can get some pics of them all strung out, the results of the lifestyles they led.

I say we have a huge case of priority disease. When images of orphans and war torn countries don't illicit the same amount of sympathy and public action as the death of some drug addicted celebrity, we have a problem.  Please read this post by Adeye, at No Greater Joy Mom and view these pics of orphans that are being aced out of a system that says they are too old and put into asylums with adults. Now this ought to upset you. This ought to make you cry. This ought to make us all do something!

In one picture there is a group of blue cribs with children on the floor. I remember reading the article when  US soldiers found this orphanage, CBS news reported this, I hope you will read it.

It is my sincerest hope that as Christians we are more distraught by what Adeye writes as a travesty to humankind than mouring the loss of the above entertainers.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ~James 1:27 (NIV)

This Scripture is really pretty clear isn't it? Are we all so comfie in our homes and lives that we can't step out and do something. Do we sit around and  say I have all I can do taking care of MY OWN family? Well, that thinking is just wrong. These poor souls are part of God's family and if your a born-again believer, they are part of your family! The church needs to wake up and consider the plight of orpans worth addressing. Not all can adopt (or can we?) , but we can contribute financially, pray, or elect officials who will vote to fund institutions that take care of these poor souls.

So what can you do, what can I do? Let's all be in prayer about this and ask our heavenly Father for answers.  God bless~Suzanne

  1. Amen and amen! It's so much easier for a world raised for self, to ignore the true needs for humanity, because they are used to indulging themselves and all their whims...and those orphans..they are the problems of another..so far away..right?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people in power who are going to have to answer to God, for standing in the way of His will, and commandment to care for the orphans. They have made adoption big business..for profit..and many nations refuse to allow generous countries to assist and adopt. They'd rather confine the children.

In our nation, all public adoption pursuit places Christians in difficult positions, because home studies and the like require that parents agree to never use corporal (biblical) parenting methods..and other things such as owning no guns, even if they are properly stored. It's ridiculous.

Private adoptions are so incredibly expensive and lengthy. Thankfully, several families I know are called to adopt, and most have adopted children with some special need..truly selfless, and debunking the myth that pro-lifers claim to want women to put their children up for adoption, yet never help.

God Bless you today. I am sorry for the entertainers who have died, but even more sorry for their fans, who like you so eloquently stated, are sorely missing the mark. There are souls to be saved.

  4. I also agree with this powerful post. The death of anyone is sad especially those who die too soon. These fans and the media seem to forget that wonderful, talented, loved people die each and their families are devastated. These people aren't "famous" but their lives were just as important.

I so appreciated what you said about caring for orphans. It's amazing how their plight is gets lost in the news, but then again, the news really isn't actually "news" or all that accurate either. Thank you for reminding us of our responsiblity as Christians.

  6. Completely agree Suzanne. Thank you for this post. It is so easy to expect someone else to 'do something'. Because of your post we followed some links and are now sponsoring a little girl via Mission Without Borders. Such a small gesture, but it is at least the 'something' that we can do right now. Love, Carly xx

  8. I am so happy to see more and more people saying these things. When our hearts have been changed by the incomprehensible love of Jesus that ought to spill out in countless ways, especially in ways like the one spelled out so clearly in the scripture you mentioned above from James. We should be ever growing in gratitude toward the God who saved us and gave everything for us, and we should be extending that redemptive love in a multitude of ways. These simple truths that have led our family into the beginning steps of adoption, but that is not the only way to be involved in orphan care and posts like yours remind us that we should care and should be doing something tangible to show it.

    Thx for sharing!

  9. I just stumbled on to your blog and have only read this post. It so refreshing to read something that while you do not bash the lives of the celebrities you speak of here, you have rightfully addressed the reality and truth of their lives and the misappropriated status and priority they receive. You are right, people at large have have a huge case of priority disease. It is sad the way their lives ended, but it was choices they made that did them in. How right you are that caring for innocent, helpless and needy children should grab the attention, affection and compassion of people, moving them to action to help rather than their emotional wailing over the loss of people that chose to destroy themselves. I do not mean to be harsh here, and certainly my heart goes out to the family and close friends these deaths touched. This is off the path here but in the same wood, why do we pay entertainers and sports figures what they get paid and have to cut school curriculum's and allow some crime because there are not enough funds for teachers and policemen? Just a little offshoot thought. Thank you for such a good blog post! I will put your blog on my sidebar so I can follow you and others can see you.
