Yarn Along

This is what is currrently on the needles. I have gotten another cowel done in the burnt orange--lovely color, and one more in the slate blue is started for my eldest daughter. She has very unusual blue eyes and this combination is going to look fantastic against those and her pale skin.  Lydia's Tiny Tea Leaves Cardi is still in progress and I ordered the most stunning buttons for this.  Total vintage feel. Then there is my grandson's little elfish hat.  That is getting the most attention as that has to be wrapped for that cute little bugger for Christmas!  Reading with the girls Warm as Wool and for my adult reading I am rereading a book every couple should read, Becoming Heirs Together to the Grace of Life by Jeff and Marge Barth.  They heavily influenced our child-rearing and marital perspective early on. Their children are all grown now with quite large families of their own. They reside in VT and I highly recommend all their materials. My son loved Mr. Barth's simple story tapes of simpler times on a farm--all wholesome stories with good character training and wonderful examples of family life the way God planned it. Now Lydia listens to them.

On another note, I was in a large store yesterday and the commercialism of the holiday hit me. I was so sad leaving.  People complaining about their children and all they wanted, the stress of shopping and hostessing families. It was downright depressing! If only we could all focus on Jesus' birth and make things--yes, make things, the world at this time of year would be a much happier place. I think, anyway:-)

What's on your needles?

  2. I so agree with your sentiments about making things. My children each receive three gifts -- no more than the baby Jesus. I never understand why folks feel like they have to spoil their children with an overabundance.

  3. Hello, beautiful knitting...

on my needles...a long overdue vest for my mother who long ago gave up hope of ever seeing it completed - I'm a bad daughter:(

she's in for a surprise - this knit along is just the ticket for me to finish it and enjoy the projects of others and make new friends.

I'll be back - I love reading your blog, have a great day

  4. Just gorgeous - thank you so much for the reading suggestions - I had never heard of him. Do they have a web site?
I also was feeling sad thinking about commercialism as well when I heard about Friday's record sales.
At least we can keep it simple and focus on Jesus.
    Blessings,

  5. Hi, Faith@ crochet by the Sea

I'm moving my "hook", crocheting a christmas tree, a new pattern, and hope it will turn out...I have to agree with you about the stores, and I stay out pretty much, yesterday we went to hallmark, and they had some rap music christmas YUCK...we bought nothing and left. Nothing like like a little Bing Crosby, or Johnny Mathis to set the holiday tone..why don't the stores get that we all don't like hip hop or what ever it is called.? Your knitting work is so pretty, and what colors....you do very beautiful work....I also agree, keepng things simple, and remembering why we celebrate the season. My shopping is spare for Christmas, but it is ordered online...can't be bothered with all that ruckus and commercialism...

  7. Suzanne,

I love what you are knitting! I am actually knitting again. My mom is here visiting and we went to a yarn store that I have been wanting to visit and some yarn jumped into my basket! ;o) It is the softest pink yarn from Uruguay. It is part silk part merino wool. I am knitting a scarf for me with it. ;o) I will try to get pictures of it on my blog soon.

The commercialism is awful. I had my little one at the dr yesterday and one mom was telling her son that if he didn't obey her Santa wouldn't bring him presents. URG!

I pray that you have a very blessed advent season!

    Love, Heather

    Thanks for sharing your handiwork.
    Blessings,

  9. I'm finished with the Christmas hats. Am now working on the second mitten for my daughter. The cuffs extend almost to the elbow. As my daughter is quite cold natured, I thought they would suit her nicely. I still have to finish the arm hole edging for my father-in-law's vest.

Oh, I love this time of year!

  10. What beautiful knitting! I agree with you about making Christmas more about Christ and giving gifts of love rather than gifts based on monetary value. Wish we could make it happen!
