Yesterday we had to put our Nubian goat Owen down. We've not lost any of our "pets" since moving here. Owen had a very sweet disposition and was my husband's favorite. He had been acting funny for a couple of days and after consulting with a friend who knows alot about such things, we put in a farm call to the vet. It was kidney problems. Even with the expensive operation the prognosis was only a 25% chance of recovery without a lifetime of problems. I held his head while the vet injected the meds into him that would make him sleep. Funny he seemed to know something was going to happen. Dear friends let us bury him on their farm. My poor husband couldn't get out of work until nighttime so we loaded Owen up and drove to their farm where my friends husband dug the hole with his tractor and we set Owen to peace.
I hope this doesn't happen again for a very long time.

I'm so sorry about Owen. How special our animal friends become and how they are missed. Bless You...
What a sad thing to have to go through. We'll think of him up there with Tasha Tudor and her heavenly farm.
Love,

Oh Suzanne, I'm so sorry to hear about Owen.
Hugs,

This is such sad news, goats are such funny characters and it is so easy to love them. I am sorry for your family, animals are such a loved part of family life.
Oh Suzanne, just reading your post makes me relive that feeling. You don't ever really get over the loss of a beloved pet, huh? I'm glad Owen brightened your lives as long as he did.

Awwww...
One of our pet rabbits died on Sunday--we had him for 4+ years. We were so sad... He was such a sweet boy. I couldn't even handle it, my BIL had to come and take him out of the cage...
(sniff, sniff)
Er..anyway, I feel your pain.
It's the BAD part to having animals, I guess. But they offer so much love, it's totally worth it!
Take care,

Suzanne, I am so truly sorry to hear about Owen. I do believe that the ability to spare our animals the experience of a slow and painful death is a blessing, but oh so difficult is the decision of when. We are so lucky to be able to share our lives with these wonderful creatures. I sometimes think they would be shocked to know how deeply we mourn for them once they are gone from our lives.
Oh Suzanne,
My thoughts are with all of you. Losing a pet can be very hard. My father's dog died a couple of months ago - but she was his companion and friend and I was just getting teary eyed today thinking of her.
It is hard.
Thinking of all of you.
My friend, Sarah, always says goats are so much like dogs. She's right. They are so friendly and personable. It's so hard to lose such a friend. I am sorry.

Hugs to your family for your loss of Owen.
I know you're probably crazy-busy, but I'd love it if you could update your Not Quite Donna Reed blog. :)
Oh how sad :(.
I am so sorry! That is so hard!
What an adorable picture though! I have wanted goats for a while...but so far...I haven't convinced my sweet hubby that it is a good idea!
Thank you to all for leaving me a sympathy note for Owen:-) And Kate I updated my Donna Reed blog--pop on over, hope you like it.
