The gals are supplying us with loads of eggs and are they good. It really is quite satisfying to get such an abundance not only for us but to share. I have been whipping up all kinds of dishes requiring eggs in large quantities. Next up~ Angel food cake with a mocha creme frosting, yummy!
Sadly, we think several of the chooks got taken last night. We are not sure what got in but we are missing about 7 gals right now and feathers have been found as far as the front pasture. This is one of those things you live with when you hobby farm, but nonetheless it is still upsetting.
On a brighter note, I have new batches made of my gluten free play dough in my
Etsy shop. I've been mixing different combinations of the natural food dyes to get some brighter colors. This batch I am very pleased with.
I hope this finds you all enjoying the sun!

It is so upsetting when something happens to the animals you are stewards of. We do not have too much trouble with predators anymore but recently one of our chickens got caught in one of the horse mangers and we found her dead, just so sad. Even though we have close to one hundred chickens it always upsets me so. They are my little fluffy bottomed ladies, as I like to call them, I adore all of them.
I can hardly eat eggs when we travel because we are so spoiled having such fresh, healthy colored eggs.
The eggs look lovely!
I enjoy your blog so much. Thank you for sharing some of your life with the rest of us.
Your play dough is such a lovely, vibrant color!
And, I would love to have eggs like that...They're charm is so quintessential.

Farm fresh eggs are a sure sign that spring has come! We don't have chickens, but I was thrilled to find some fresh eggs for sale sitting out by a farm near us. I love all the different colors of the eggs in your picture.

Your eggs are beautiful! I hope you will be able to find out what is getting your girls. My neighbor has probably 50 + chickens. She pinned them in this Winter but she has in the past let them run free around her farm. I have unfortunately seen a few that were hit by cars.
She did tell me one that time that she has experimented with freezing the eggs and she said that it works. She cracks them open and puts a few in freezer bags and freezes them. Sounds like something to research if you think you would want to do that.
Hugs,
Angela
You must have some Aracauna's in your flock! We lost some of our ducks a few months back...never easy for the kids, or the Mom who names them!!!

I love that bright dough. And seeing your eggs makes me want to get out to the free-range egg farm this weekend.
Suzanne,
There is nothing as rewarding as gathering one's own eggs! Boy, angel food cake is a great idea - we are up to 16 or so eggs per day now.
Your play dough looks wonderful and I love your new photo at the top of your blog.
Spring wishes,
Tonya
Dear Suzanne,
Oh, your eggs look so yummy!!! I love eggs!!! We by ours from an organic farmer and I love getting all the green ones!
The gluten free play dough looks like such fun!
I love the photo in your header!

Oh your poor girls! How many layers does that leave you? My friend Sarah (who is a true Woman of the Dirt and has lived that way all of her 60 + years) says, "When you've got livestock, you've got deadstock!" The first time I heard that I just gasped. Then you go through a few losses and it's never easy, but somehow reality sets in. Darn I hate it when that happens!
